Volunteering with The Hospice

Hold a hand. Drive a car. Use a computer. Plan a golf tournament. Address envelopes. Feed a pet. Make a speech. Bake a cake. Ring up a sale. Listen to cherished memories. Pat a shoulder. Give a hug. Touch a heart.

Change a life...maybe your own.

When you become a volunteer for The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, there's a place for you. Whether you choose to work directly with patients and families or to volunteer in any of a hundred other ways, you can make a big difference in someone's life, including your own. You'll discover it's extremely rewarding working with patients and families or behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly.

Volunteer opportunities are as individual as you are,
and we welcome volunteers from all walks of life.

Choose from opportunities such as:

  • Patient and family support
  • Office and computer work
  • Community information and outreach
  • Thrift Shop sales
  • Fund raising...and so much more.

There are so many ways you can make a difference in the life of another. We are sure that no matter which area you choose, you will enjoy being a part of The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast's family of volunteers.

Hospice Teen Volunteers (HTV)

HTV is a special program that enables high school students to make hospice volunteering a part of their educational experience in collaboration with local high schools. Student-run hospice council meetings, support from hospice volunteer coordinators, and opportunities to meet with other teen volunteers enrich the experience. Typical HTV activities range from brightening someone's day with a visit to sharing computer knowledge to producing a cherished Lifetime Legacies personal history video.

Making a difference in your community

The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast was founded by volunteers in 1977 and has grown to become the nation's leading not-for-profit hospice organization. Today The Hospice's volunteer programs involve more than 3,000 dedicated individuals.

If you're kind and compassionate, offer unique skills and talents and are interested in serving your community, please get in touch with us. As a new volunteer you will take part in a one-on-one interview, a background screening and orientation. You'll also receive special training before choosing the volunteer opportunity that best suits you and ongoing support thereafter.
